National Championships and Building BC

A lot of the other sports blogs have gone into the details about Jerry York's latest national championship.  I love watching hockey, but simply don't know enough about it to write intelligently about the ins and outs of the game.  I'm incredibly happy for Jerry York, for the guys who worked so hard throughout the year to bring this championship home, and most of all for the university.  Championships like this remind us why college athletics is a worthwhile pursuit for mission-oriented universities such as BC, and help our alma mater build a brighter future.

ATL Killing it on Football

ATL has been hitting the nail on the head recently as to why BC fans are so upset with the current state of the football team.  It's not just about the wins and losses, it's that Spaz was brought in to "build a program" and instead seems to be aimlessly wandering through recruiting, coaching hires, and practices.  There is no innovation when it comes to the fan experience, no discernible effort to market the BC brand outside of the immediate Boston area, and generally no sense that "Ever to Excel" should actually mean something.

Bracket Challenge Winner!

If you thought you won the bracket challenge simply because Kentucky won last night, think again.  Half of the participants in our pool picked Kentucky to win.  For the first time ever, I won a bracket challenge, finishing in the 96.8th percentile.  The winner of our guest post, OLIO22201 finished a mere 20 points behind.  E-mail me at aroundtheres@gmail.com to claim your guest post.

I guess the big topic of conversation going around the blogosphere today is whether or not Kentucky's win will fundamentally alter the college basketball landscape.  Will colleges now become more active in the recruitment of one-and-done players who are NBA-bound?
